There are many calling for Sumner County Schools in Tennessee to be closed due to percieved widespread illness in the school district.  The issue is that illness is not widespread across the district.

As responsible parents, we keep our children home if they are sick with a contagious illness.  Now irresponsible parents are sending their children to school putting everyone else at risk of becoming sick.

Because of this, a small number of parents are wanting to close schools rather than work toward encouraging the parents with sick children to keep their child at home.

Why should we, the responsible parents, be tasked with having to find, and pay for, care for our children who would be forced to stay home because irresponsible parents will not keep their sick child home?

That is a flawed argument.  Punish everyone because of the actions of a few. 

It is clear it is the entitled parents who have the financial means to provide care for their children at any time or have a single working parent in the home are the ones pushing this with no thought or care given to households where both parents work.

We encourage you to keep schools open unless illness reaches epidemic proportions.
