More on this petition:
A rezoning proposal for Eastern Summit County is right now in front of the Summit County Council. This rezoning will affect communities along the highway corridor from Peoa to Woodland. We want to ensure the opportunity for open space, trails and parks is preserved.Just a short 25 years ago there were two stop lights between Summit Park and the top of main street in Park City. Just like the Wasatch front from Ogden to Payson, it was not long ago that each city was distinct and open. Both corridors have now completely filled in with businesses and homes from one end to the other. In just 25 short years from now, what will the Kamas Valley look like? If you have had the chance to attend any county or city planning meetings in our valley, growth is surely coming at a rapid pace. We have little control over how many people want to move here, just as we, our parents or grandparents did. One thing we do have the ability to control, as growth comes, is the preservation of open space, parks and trails to make our home a beautiful place to live. Those communities spoken of above who had the foresight to plan ahead are still beautiful and enjoyable communities to live in. Those who have not planned are choked with congestion and overcrowding and now obtaining open space, parks and connective trails is a near impossible task. This petition is to let the Summit County Council know of citizens’ desire to include requirements in any rezoning proposal and future development to integrate planning and support for trails, parks and open space. Also important is to require developers and landowners to offset costs to build trails, provide easements of property for public land use and preserve our open space. Help us, the South Summit Trails Foundation, protect the opportunity which will slowly but surely slip away, to provide open space and build connecting trails that will preserve our quality of life in the South Summit Valley for now and for future generations.Sign the petition below and share it to anyone else who can help our voices be heard. Thank you for your support.
