Electronic waste or E waste is the disposal of electronic appliances and devices such as cell phones, computers, refrigerators, air conditioner, etc. With our growing consumption, the amount of electronic waste is rapidly growing putting the environment as well as people in third world countries at risk. Electronics are composed of many chemicals and heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, chromium, brominated (World Health Organization) which can accumulate in the ground and water if not disposed properly. Furthermore, electronic waste is often illegally shipped out to third world countries where it puts the health of adults and children at risk. Their primitive techniques of extracting precious metals from the electronics exposes them to dangerous chemicals which is particularly bad for children. By having a drop-off point at John Abbott it would make it easier for students to properly dispose of their used electronics and help out the planet.
