The City of Suffolk has an ordinance in place that ONLY permits cable/internet companies to offer services if they can offer service to EVERY SUFFOLK RESIDENT. If they can’t offer service to one resident, they can’t offer service to any.
There are places in Suffolk where people live where it’s not cost effective for companies to put down new wiring or use low grade existing wires to offer their service. The amount it would cost to make those improvements to existing wiring or install new wiring would drive consumer prices up, resulting in loss of business or lack of sales.
The City of Suffolk has a franchise agreement in place that is non exclusive, however any incoming cable/internet provider must be able to deliver service to all areas of Suffolk. The City also recoups a franchise fee that is charged to Spectrum, and Spectrum charges it’s consumers that fee.
Please sign this petition and let Suffolk know to DROP THE REQUIREMENT that mandates all providers must offer service to all areas of Suffolk, allowing heavier populated areas to have more choices when it comes to their cable/internet providers.
