Re-site Haverhill Household Waste Recycling Centre

To put it simply, Haverhill has outgrown the current Household Waste Recycling Centre off Chalkstone Way. It is situated in a residential area where residents park their cars. It is essentially a grotty bit of concrete hardstanding with a portakabin and a few big skips on it.The lane that is used as access is barely two cars wide. The site has parking for 5 cars, it is too narrow and is up a slope. Chalkstone Way is a busy road and often has a long queue of cars in it waiting to get the the Recycling Centre. Chalkstone Way is soon going to be the access for the road that will serve the Great Wilsey Park where there are plans for 2500 new houses.
Haverhill will soon have 30,000 residents but the Recycling Centre holds 5 cars! Compare Haverhill with the facility in Lowestoft. Actually, there is no comparison.
The site is close to housing, a park, a playing field, on a busy residential access road which also serves the golf club and a restaurant.
By moving the site, local residents will not be inconvenienced by the noise and traffic disruption.
Cars will not be puffing out pollution while waiting in long queues.
The potential for recycling would be increased.
Public Safety would be increased.
The wonderful people of Haverhill will be that bit calmer.
The excellent staff would be able to have better facilities too.
We need to call on Suffolk County Council to stop ignoring the needs of the people of Haverhill. All too often there doesn't seem to be a plan for Haverhill. Suffolk County Council need act quickly and develop a site for a new Recycling Centre suitable for the 21st Century and suitable for Haverhill.
