Program review of Suffield Public School's Special Education Services

This petition had 142 supporters

Dear Suffield parents and citizens,

We ask you to join us in calling on Suffield Public Schools administration and Board of Education members to clearly and firmly address concerns within the special education services (especially for those children with serious disability).  This petition seeks to continue the work of the CREC report that was developed after being commissioned by the BOE to perform a comprehensive review of special education services in 2011.  It is of upmost importance that there are appropriate educational opportunities for students with special needs within the Suffield Public Schools.  Currently, there is still great concern regarding the communication, transparency, programming, inclusion, professional development for all staff and curriculum continuity from parents and students within the special education community.

We will deliver this petition and letter to Superintendent Berasi and the Suffield Board of Education at an upcoming board of education meeting.

We the undersigned believe it is of utmost importance for the administration to do the following:

  • Commission a consultant group (CREC or another comparable agency) to do a follow up comprehensive program review of special education services (especially those services/programs, policies, and staffing that affect children with significant disabilities).
  • Identify areas of strengths, weakness and liabilities within all aspects of special education programs, policies, communication and collaboration, transition, appropriately certified staffing and professional development.
  • Communicate the findings of the review to ALL stakeholders of this community (administration, teachers, staff, and parents).
