Phones are used by everyone in the modern world for things like social media, keeping up to date on the news, or simply checking the time. In 2020 WA Students are going to be facing a phone ban meaning students are not permitted to have their phones on or out during the school day, in theory this is supposed to make kids more sociable but for people with anxiety it can very much do the opposite.

Humans are social animals and have the need to be connected to one another, in between classes students at opposite ends of the school should still be able to communicate with one another without it resulting in getting their phones confiscated, not everyone has their besties in the same class as them and this can get difficult when all communication with your friends are cut except for a small portion of the school day.

Phones also help students keep up to date with the news and gives students the resources to educate themselves on things not included in the school curriculum. The phone ban will prove difficult for many students including myself and I stand strongly against mobile devices being banned in public schools across WA. Together we can all make a difference and show the department of education that phones are important and are not always harmful.
