Replace half of downtown Sudbury with Parking
0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!
Whereas City Council has determined that parking is equally as important to the location of a new community arena as the cost and economic impact of a new community arena; and
Whereas residents of the City of Greater Sudbury seem to agree that there's not enough parking downtown; and
Whereas the addition of new parking spaces downtown will increase the cost of the overall arena project; and
Whereas more parking always means more economic activity;
Therefore, we the petitioners demand that Sudbury City Council acquire and demolish 50% of the land area of Downtown Sudbury to be repaved as a free parking lot to meet the demands of residents who live too far away from downtown to walk or bike there and who choose not to use public transit or park more than a block away from their destination.
We the petitioners understand that acquiring this land will cost a lot of money and will reduce annual property tax revenues a significant amount. We also understand that parking lots cost money to maintain and that demolishing 50% of downtown will reduce the number of destinations worth visiting downtown. Nevertheless, we the petitioners demand more parking downtown!
