Save the 19th Years Old, Noura Hussein, from Death
Noura, aged 19, was forced to marry at the age of 16. She refused to consummate the marriage and escape the marital home, to her aunt's house. Three years later, she was reassured to return to her parents' home. However, upon her return, she was handed over to her husband, but she continued to refuse to engage in sex. With the help of his relatives, the late husband tried to force her to have sex with him, which led her to stabbing him to death. The court sentenced Noura to death, and she has 15 days to appeal.
Noura wanted to continue her studies become a teacher. Sudan is a male dominant society, in which child marriage is legal. Noura is a typical victim of a system that failed to address child marriage, forced marriages and marital rape.
First of all, we call upon Sudanese authorities to cancel the sentence and to ensure a fair trial that takes into account the compelling personal and social mitigating circumstances. Above all, we call upon Noura’s relatives to pardon her and accept the blood money as a human merciful gesture to who is ultimately their own blood.
