This year there will be only eighty debaters in the nation qualified to go to the Tournament of Campions of LD Debate. Through extremely hard work, Jae has managed to be one of those eighty high school debaters.

His entry rests on the decision of Stuyvesant, who as of now prohibit Jae from competing. If Stuyvesant prevents Jae from competing at this year's most elite debate tournament, Stuyvesant will have done nothing more than successfully discourage the independent pursuits of its students. It goes contrary to the most fundamental aims of an educational institution to undermine the rewards of hard work, to insist might makes right, and to avoid empathetic responses to a complicated issue.
