Students are very stressed with school and sports. A day off can benefit their mental health, allow them to catch up on schoolwork, and better their grades. The teacher’s mental health is overlooked. Not only do teachers not get enough credit. They are also underpaid and overworked. Having Wednesdays be a day off or work from home would really benefit the teacher’s mental health and well-being. Parents and staff would also benefit by not having to pay for gas. Having Wednesday be a work-from-home day would help parents and staff with the rise in gas and cost of living. According to npr.org “1 in 5 students living in the U.S. show symptoms of mental health disorder in a given year”. It also states that “ In a classroom of 25 students. 5 of them will show the same issues that many adults deal with. Like depression, anxiety, and substance abuse.” Over 70% of children that “need mental health services won’t get them. Yet treated or not they still have to go to school.” Family time is also important, we spend more time in school than with our own families. Having Wednesdays as a mental health day will help restore the balance between family life and school life. Student-athletes more often than not on game nights get home later than 10 and still have to get homework done. In school, these students have struggles focusing due to lack of sleep according to timely “MD telehealth for students”. Mental Health Wednesdays will allow students, teachers, and parents to catch up on work and sleep. In conclusion, there are several benefits to having Wednesdays be mental health days.
