Support Mental Health
As we all know there has been a lot of tragedies with school shootings. With all these shootings I strongly believe that all schools should have a mental health class. In this year alone 2019 .Students who have experienced school shootings should have the opportunity to express themselves not just physically but also mentally. According to www.wgu.edu.com “Teachers and students should be provided with ways to recognize signs of developing mental health problems, and there should be opportunities around the awareness and management of mental health crises, including the risk of suicide or self-harm’’. There have been a lot of cases in which students have taken their own lives due to tragic situations that they have gone through. We as the people should think about what’s going on in the students minds and try to help them in any way possible.
On Thursday November 14, 2019 there was another shooting in Santa Clarita, California at Saugus High School. Unfortunately the shooter shot multiple students, killing two students and injuring the others. ABC news interviewed students from Saugus and many students have said that they don’t feel safe in school and that they hope that there would be ways to help them go through the pain and loss that they have experienced. According to www.nasponline.org “ Schools are an ideal place to provide mental health services to children and youth. Schools offer an ideal context for prevention, intervention, positive development, and regular communication between school and families.” Schools are very important to lives because it helps people get education and helps them mature and become who they are. Schools give students an opportunity to express themselves and to become whole. If schools were to have these classes, the rate of suicides would decrease. These classes would help keep the students minds busy and productive.
In my honest opinion, I'm truly tired of hearing of these school shootings that have been happening in the U.S. I'm sure you’re also tired of hearing about the tragic situations that they have to go through without having anyone to go to because they are afraid and scared for their lives. Yes the schools provide counseling, but the students might feel better if they were with people that have experienced what they went through and they could express how they truly feel. So let’s all come together and try to have all schools to make it possible to make mental health classes a requirement.
