Stop the use of Standards Based Grading in the Nampa School District
Standards Based Grading is hurting students and becoming a growing problem in our school district. Students who were already doing well in school are now struggling to maintain their GPA and achieve the grades that they have always worked hard for. While students who were previously failing are now passing their classes without effort or care. While standards based grading was created with the intent to benefit students, it has done more harm than good. Students and teenagers today already have enough on their minds with busy schedules, stress, and classwork. The last thing that a student needs is more distraught and troubles. Schoolwork and Grades should be diverse and unique, we should not have to be divided into 1's, 2's, 3's, and 4's. The School Board has been making decisions without considering its impact on students for too long. The time for Students to rise and take control of their own learning is long overdue. Schools were created for the benefit of the student, but recently the focus has shifted, Standards Based Grading is the first in a long strand of unfairness and injustice within the School System. With this petition we hope to raise awareness about the Standards Based Grading System and its harmful impact on the Students of the Nampa School District. We will not stop until we make a change.
