Stafford County Public Schools should cancel all SOLs for the 2020-2021 school year. This school year has been stressful for both students and staff with virtual learning. Plenty of students have struggled with keeping their grades up and working in an at home environment this year. If we’re struggling to turn in assignments by the due date and keeping our grades up, what makes you think we won’t struggle even more on the SOLs?

Most students have been unmonitored this year, a great amount of teachers do not require you to turn on your cameras. This means that the student behind the screen can very easily be away from the screen and not paying any attention at all. Students have been given the ability to cheat on pretty much every assignment, because plenty of them are not monitored at home when completing school work. The students who have been getting their answers off the internet will most likely not do so well on their SOLs. If they are not paying attention in class and cheating on assignments then they will hardly retain any information. SOL grades are going to be way lower this year. Coming from a student who has tried their best to be successful this year, and who has also gone from having straight As to barely passing, I don’t feel confident nor comfortable with taking any SOL this year. A handful of other students in Stafford County Public Schools feel the same way that I do. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you take my words into consideration.
