Let's create academic equity within the TDSB!

Toronto's schools are full of diversity; they're diverse in religion, race, gender, sexual orientation, and a variety of different identities and denominations that we are so fortunate to be exposed to. Unfortunately, there is one type of diversity that does more harm than good: economic diversity. In lower-income neighbourhoods, secondary school students don't perform as well as a result of minimal resources, adequate funding, and - above all else - a lack of belief in their abilities. I, Nabilla Dullapi, propose that 1.5% from the top six grade twelve marks of every student in wealthier schools should be redistributed to the top sixes of students going to less affluent schools in Scarborough, Etobicoke, North York, and the poorer areas of Toronto. In Ontario, a grade twelve student's top six marks determine the academic portion of their university admittance; these marks are crucial and are often impacted by one's socioeconomic status.
