When young women ages 13-18 walk into school we are probably thinking about seeing friends and going to classes, not about what shirt we are wearing and how tight it is. For most of us we just want to feel free to express ourselves and obviously having a few rules on what all student wear makes sense. However when the dress code of Roosevelt High School states “Students may not wear pajamas, halter tops, tank tops, crops tops, spaghetti strapped tops, bare backed tops or clothing with holes. All apparel must fit properly—no low cut shirts, excessively tight shirts, pants or skirts.” I feel that’s mainly directed at young women and, we wonder why? Teen girl’s bodies aren’t meant to be looked at when in school, or anywhere for that matter. Why not teach the people who are ‘looking’ to stop. And especially stop sexualizing young women.
