Ahmad Hammoud started this petition to Students of LAU

Protests have erupted nation-wide in Lebanon as people, students of schools and universities included, have had more than enough concerning the ongoing, unbearable social and economic situation in the country. We students have had enough, and the final solution is for us to take to the streets and protest peacefully for our basic rights.

Yet, in contrast with our patriotic duties, there are academic duties that shall not be ignored, but with the ongoing situation in Lebanon, and seeing that this is a very important time for the country, we believe keeping eyes on two tasks at once is difficult, and does not serve our personal interests, nor our common good as students in the first place.

Therefore, and seeing that other universities have taken the same initiative, we, students of LAU call upon the university staff and faculty to consider cancelling the midterm exams for the Fall 2019 semester, as the current situation calls for us to be on the streets to make change happen, adding to that that a lot of students are unable to attend classes due closures of roads in many regions, of course with replacing the midterm grades with those of online assignments given by professors through online classes that LAU has accepted yo hold after a successful petition asking for it, as well as the final exams that in most cases will eventually cover the material that was required for the midterms.

And last but not least, a decrease in the material of LAC courses and electives would be very convenient for us to focus on our major courses for the most desirable outcomes concerning grades on assignments and the final exams.
