It is not appropriate to think of mental disorders differently from physical illnesses. I believe the two, in truth, are inseparable. The two can not be divided since the whole body is interconnected and interwoven. Just like everything else in the body, the brain is an organ and can be damaged like everything else. It is not only isolated in the brain when the brain is sick but instead affects the entire body and general well-being.

In individuals with mental illnesses, drug abuse, self-harm, and suicide are very common and risky. The mental illness stigma prevents individuals from having the treatment they need to get better and causes them to mask their pain.

The most important thing that someone can do for themselves is to receive support. But the stigma, sadly, prevents individuals from seeking support. The mental disorder should not be anything to be embarrassed by or otherwise thought of. More people would have the confidence to get treatment and change their life if mental illness is viewed similarly to other diseases.
