Black History is a very important thing in our world but In school were only taught the bare minimum of it by only being taught about slavery and the civil rights movement there is so much more important events and leaders. What is a great example of important black history? Arts! Arts and entertainment is a great part of many cultures but especially with the African American Community. People like Maya Angelou, Stevie Wonder, Or Even Denzel Washington have a great story that should be told. Now with Evergreen Park’s Arts Programs and groups it is quite obvious that it lacks diversity many participants have also agreed and the diversity we need is in the soul of Earth, Wind & Fire and the Rhythm and blues of New Edition I’m our bands and choirs. Our Creative Writing program should be taught about the amazing writing ability of Maya Angelou, but we shouldn’t just keep these teachings exclusive to only the participants of these programs but it should be shared with the entire school, with an Assembly. An Assembly consisting of The Band playing songs composed by black composers, Choir signing songs written by black artists and with the Creative writing club reciting poems by black poets all while telling the amazing stories of all these black icons. Our stories should be told and we should be proud of them this is how we become more than just a average suburban high school. This is how we become Evergreen Park COMMUNITY High School !
