Recently, our AP World History Teacher, Mr. Rached (better known as Mr. K), has been terminated for past comments on his social media that have resurfaced. While these posts are unjustifiable, one should have room for redemption in these situations.

Not everyone stays the same person for their entire life, but in this day and age, it is hard to escape one’s digital footprint and mistakes, even if they were from years before. Instead of judging one on their past mistakes, we should hold them accountable for their current actions and the change that they make.

As seen by the students who sign this petition, we acknowledge that he is a great teacher who excels at, not only his job, but also caring for his students. A person’s career should not be revoked when they have created noticeable change in their lives as well as in the lives of others. By firing an incredibly competent teacher, you are discrediting someone's journey and the lengths he made to create the change he made in himself that very few people execute, even less accomplish.
