The new AHS phone policy is unnecessary and part of new policies implemented by AHS administrators in the new 2021-2022 school year. It is completely restrictive to students, as we continue to adjust to an in person school year. Students should not have to be stripped of their own private property because it's believed that we cannot handle ourselves for the duration of class. Cell phones are not disruptive to students learning, and should not be treated as so. Students should be given the freedom to keep their phones and control themselves before having them taken away. The Code of Conduct is old and outdated, and hasn't been reviewed by a group of staff and students alike, to properly ensure that it is fair and just to students and staff. If there is an emergency at home, calling through the school doesn't get the same urgency as it would to call the students personal device to convey the message. Cell phones are a direct line of communication between students and guardians, and a necessity in order to ensure safety within the school.
