Without the normal opportunity of one-on-one interactive learning in class and the extraneous circumstances of life during the pandemic, students cannot be expected to perform as they would under typical conditions. Not only does the average student struggle at the same level as they would in face-to-face classes during a virtual semester, but some students are facing great financial burdens, loss of family, and general depression/anxiety from the pandemic; Coupling that with the stresses of university students absolutely cannot be expected to perform at their traditional level.

For the past two semesters, students and parents have had to essentially beg the administration to allow a pass/fail grade for the terms. To be proactive, we the students have decided that we will start the semester out with these requests instead of hoping that the school will already have our interest in mind. There are plenty of other schools in Pennsylvania that have implemented the pass/fail system already: Penn state, Temple, University of Pennsylvania, etc. as well as some of our own sister schools like Bloomsburg and IUP who already have these systems in place for their students to use if necessary. Our requests are simple, implement a pass/fail option for the current semester.

If the university seeks to be proactive and prove to its students that it has their best interest at heart, they will enact a pass/fail option for this semester. The school cannot control the hardships that have been endured by their students due to the pandemic, but they can choose to be supportive and fair of what their students desire.
