Minister Lisa Thompson and the Ontario PC government are making major cuts to Ontario’s public education system.

These cuts will not only affect the type of education that is brought to students across Ontario, but will also affect the conditions in which it is taught.

The PC government claims that raising the classroom size ratio from 22:1 to 28:1  Will have minimal effect on how education is delivered, and cause no teachers to lose their jobs.

This is not the case. Raising the classroom ratios is adding approximately 31% more students to each classroom. For example, a class size of 27 students will raise to 36 students.

This will not only cost the public education system thousands of teaching jobs, but will also eliminate  many support staff, administration staff, and custodial staff.

Moreover, in rural schools where the average classroom is built to hold 25 students with desks comfortably, students will be forced into tight quarters uncomfortably.

Furthermore, on top of instructing the curriculum, teachers will be expected to accommodate and modify teaching plans for many types of students including special needs students.

This petition is to ask for Minister LISA Thompson to place herself in a classroom under the exact conditions that the PC government wants teachers to teach under for two weeks. She may instruct any subject of her choice under the Ontario curriculum that falls under the STEAM protocol, but she will be in the exact same conditions as a teacher.  She will then have to test her students and see the results .
