As students of Haddonfield Middles School, we are fed up with the superlatives in the yearbook, it’s a popularity contest meant for people that have a million friends. It just makes all the most popular people, more popular. And it’ makes the unpopular people, less popular.

The Next Top Model category is what gets on our nerves the most. It undermines the confidence of the students who don’t win. Anyone who may win, may feel as they need to stay “beautiful” and develop and eating disorder. Anyone who doesn’t win in this category will just feel bad about themselves, and feel like they aren’t pretty.

Not only, do these categories make people feel bad about themselves, they can make people feel like they don’t have any friends. It’s a total popularity contest. The people who get nominated, get nominated into categories where they don’t belong, they just have friends who think that they should be in the yearbook.

This is supposed to be a “fun” thing to see what your classmates think of you. But, if you aren’t insanely popular, no one cares enough to nominate you for a category you deserve to be in. For everyone but the popular kids, this contest isn’t “fun”. It’s just disappointing to find that you don’t qualify to be in the yearbook. It’s sad and frustrating to all the people who don’t make it. Their confidence is completely ruined.
