Students around the country are working to expose Chick-fil-A's anti-equality agenda, and have been organizing on campus to raise awareness about the restaurant chain's ties to leading anti-gay groups.
College and universities can play a unique role here, because Chick-fil-A has a presence at over 100 college campuses around the country. If you’re currently a student, there may even be one in your school’s food court. If so, will you join students from several other universities to start a petition asking your school to cut ties with this homophobic restaurant if it doesn’t cease its anti-LGBT activities?
If you’re not sure how to start, check out the petition from students at the University of North Texas, University of New Orleans and Florida Gulf Coast University. You can also email us at email@example.com (or simply fill out the form to the left) and we’ll help you get set up.
Getting Chick-fil-A off a few campuses may not seem like much, but as Chick-fil-A’s corporate headquarters starts seeing school after school drop off their map, they’re sure to take notice. By working together, we can influence Chick-fil-A to ultimately do the right thing and renounce its anti-equality ways.
Will you help us get Chick-fil-A’s attention around this important issue and start a petition to kick the chain off your campus? With the help of grassroots student activists all over the country, we can take the rampent homophobia out of waffle fries and chicken biscuits.
SAMPLE CHICK-FIL-A PETITION:
Title: Tell [School Name] : Stop Supporting Chick-fil-A’s Anti-Gay Agenda -- Remove the Restaurant from Campus
NOTE: Please use the title above by inserting your school’s name. Character count maximum on titles is 100 characters. If your title exceeds 100 characters, please modify to fit.
Across the country, gay and straight students at colleges and universities are standing up to Chick-fil-A -- a popular restaurant chain with lucrative franchises on hundreds of campuses. Why? Because Chick-fil-A is using their profits to support anti-gay groups who oppose marriage equality for LGBT Americans.
While Chick-fil-A serves famous sandwiches and waffle fries, Chick-fil-A’s charitable arm, the WinShape Foundation, hosts annual retreats with leading anti-gay groups like the National Organization for Marriage, Focus on the Family, the Ruth Institute, and the Pennsylvania Family Institute -- groups focused on banning same-sex marriage across the country. Pressured to stop supporting these organizations, a senior leader at Chick-fil-A’s WinShape Foundation instead praised the work of infamous anti-gay activist David Blankenhorn for helping push bans on same-sex marriage.
[School Name] should be a place that supports equality for everyone -- where all students, staff and community members feel welcome. We should not be allowing corporations to do business on our campus if they are using their profits to strip fundamental civil rights from gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans. Please join me in calling on our school’s leadership to remove Chick-fil-A from campus -- unless and until the restaurant chain withdraws its support for anti-gay organizations.
Target: Find email addresses for the following leaders/offices:
University President, University Press Office, University Food Services
I’m writing to demand that [School Name] cease its partnership with Chick-fil-A, and remove the restaurant from campus unless and until the restaurant chain stops supporting anti-gay organizations working to take civil rights away from lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people.
Chick-fil-A has a track record of making donations to organizations like Focus on the Family, the Pennsylvania Family Institute, and other anti-gay groups working to ban same-sex couples from getting married across the country. Moreover, the company’s charitable arm, the WinShape Foundation, regularly hosts conferences with numerous anti-gay organizations focused on preventing same-sex marriage and LGBT equality.
I want my university to be a place where all students, staff and community members feel welcome. We should not be allowing corporations to do business on our campus if they are using their profits to strip fundamental civil rights from gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans. I urge you to stand up for equality for LGBT Americans and call on Chick-fil-A to stop supporting anti-gay organizations -- or else be removed from our campus.
