Although it is true that the year 11 induction program may help clear select individuals' confusion about commencing sixth form, it is blatantly an unnecessary program. This is due to the fact that year 11's have already faced extreme amounts of stress since we have spent 2 years preparing for exams that didn't happen. Additionally, it is unquestionable that the workload given to us during online schooling has drained us all, both mentally and physically. The vast majority of year 11's are clear about their sixth form path and should be able to reach out to members of staff individually to clear up any confusion that may be occurring, as oppose to making it compulsory for an entire year of students to spend months preparing for something that they already have a clear idea of. The main reason why this induction program should be cancelled is it is absolutely ridiculous for students to begin AS/A level or IB tasks (14-24 June.) This is because due to given circumstances a large percentage of students feel as if they are not learning anything or retaining information effectively. Consequently, the difficulty range between iGCSE and sixth form level is major so we should be taught this new content in person when school reopens or when year 12 is meant to start- why are we starting year 12 when we are still in year 11? Since we probably won't have the idealistic summer of being able to travel, we are likely going to be depressed stuck at home for 2 months anyways. Adding schoolwork; 'summer exercises,' and 'reading lists' will make the summer much more unpleasant than it will probably already be. Our irksome summer should consist of revision such as comprehending content from iGCSE level, since we didn't have the opportunity to revise for our exams we should have a clear understanding of chosen subjects and feel ready for the upcoming difficult courses. Lastly, since we are starting our courses on the 14th of June, won't we be retaught the same content when new students begin at DBS next year since they will be behind? Please can we follow other schools' footsteps and end school on May 14 for the sake of students' mental healths.
