Bring Back PHS Stagger Dismissal
Bring Back PHS Stagger Dismissal
Every day, students spend at least 15 minutes in stand-still traffic, on top of the drive home, trying to get out of the Park Hill South parking lot. As a student, not only is this very frustrating, but I also feel very overwhelmed. There are many cars, and often the spots are very tight, and it makes trying to get out of the parking lot that much harder. Trying to get out of the parking lot should NOT cause students anxiety nor should it require a whole strategy to try to find the fastest way to get out every day. To be frank, it is ridiculous. However, last semester when we went back full time and we had stagger dismissal, getting out of this school was much calmer and faster. We believe that switching back to a staggered dismissal, not only will it get everyone out of the school quicker, but it will also make the process safer for everyone involved. We understand you guys don't want us to lose class time in the process of switching to a staggered dismissal, but it would be at most 8 minutes a day, and to be completely honest, students are very restless those last 8 minutes, so not much work gets done regardless. On top of that, many students are involved in jobs, off-campus sports, or other personal matters. They do not have the time to sit in the parking lot for 15+ minutes. And to be honest, after being away from home for seven hours, I think I speak for most students when I say all that we want is to just be at home. We also ask, if we can't at least have a staggered dismissal, that the parents involved in drop off do not go into the Athletic or Academic lots. Most of the backup is due to the fact that parents go where they shouldn't pick up their kids, and on top of that, take up both the entrance AND exit lanes into the Athletic and Panther Preserve Lots, meaning that if you are parked in Athletic, you automatically only have one exit. We understand that we are asking a lot, but all we ask is that you at least listen and consider the positive effects this could have on everyone involved :).
