Ryerson University was founded by an individual that supported the Residential School System. Ryerson uses out of date language to reference it's Aboriginal Student population in a way that excludes the Metis Nation. The Co-Chairs of the Student Wellbeing Conference met with Ryerson staff and informed them that this language is in violation to the self-identification of the Métis population.
Ryerson's response was "this is how Ryerson uses the term Aboriginal" as if it had the right to choose its own definition of self-identification of subpopulations.
Please support a change in the way Ryerson approaches students my demanding inclusion and Anti-Oppressive practices in the way it does so. Also, support the Indigenous population and especially the Métis.
Please boycott the survey and sign the petition to demand respectful treatment of all students inclusive of the Indigenous population at Ryerson.
