Students ask the School Board: Retain Principal Ed Behrens at San Marcos High School

Our principal, Ed Behrens has been asked to step down after 20 years of service to San Marcos High School (SMHS). The School Board has decided that Principal Behrens is not the best leader for SMHS.

Let’s Tell The Board They Are Wrong!

Mr. Behrens cares about every student at San Marcos and works incredibly hard every day. He knows us, engages with us and believes in us. His positive influence is felt in our classrooms, on our athletic fields, in our academic organizations, and throughout the entire community.

Mr. Behrens has set high standards and demands a lot of us, and we have all thrived in the programs and activities created while he has been our principal. He has strengthened the block program, which is, year after year, stated as the #1 thing people love about SMHS.

For so long SMHS was a bit of an embarrassment to the school district, but under Mr. Behrens it is has transformed into one of the most successful and exciting schools in the area. Our friends are transferring to SMHS from others in the district because they know what a positive environment it is. We are extremely proud of our school, and of Mr. Behrens.

As students, we often don’t give much thought to who is running our school. There are so many kids here, how could one administrator impact us personally? But it’s the positive effects of Mr. Behrens’ work, from CIF Championships to top-rated school programs to the overall culture of success and diversity, that has made a difference for all of us. Students and teachers feel at home at SMHS. Even those who don’t know Mr. Behrens personally are greatly affected by him – he is the heart of our school! We truly can’t afford to lose him.

Please show your support by signing your name on this petition to retain Ed Behrens as our SMHS principal. It is not too late!
