Homeroom is an unnecessary part of our school life. Not only does it take about time during the school day, a time that many students see as an essential part of the week to catch up on homework and communicate with teachers, it also gets rid of a deserved break in the middle of the week, a break that is many students only time to explore clubs and talents that they would not be able to normally do because of activity’s out side of school and just relax and take a mental break from the stress of school.

The “group building exercises” that we are forced to do in our homeroom classes are having students share feelings and experiences that are not ment to be shared with strangers but rather with people that they trust and know. And for some students being asked in front of a class how something makes you feel or personal questions can be a source of anxiety.

I have not met one student that attends Olympia high school that enjoys or looks forward to homeroom I think it’s time we rethink what the purpose and need for homeroom is.
