Due to COVID-19, most things in our lives have been put on hold. Many people are struggling and one such group is the Class of 2020. As a member of the Class of 2020, I had many things planned for the months between March and July, but now everything I planned is falling through, and the same is happening to my fellow classmates. Bainbridge High School is trying their best to make adjustments but they are not adjusting the date of the graduation ceremony, June 13th. As the Stay At Home order is expected to lift May 31st, this makes having our graduation ceremony on June 13th nearly impossible. Bainbridge High has announced the ceremony will be held virtually instead. Not only is that a huge disappointment for students, family, and staff, but holding it virtually is potentially damaging to motivation and mental health. I don't want our ceremony to take place at home through a computer, and many of my classmates feel the same way. I want the same opportunity previous classes had. I want to walk across that stage one by one, with the people I've grown up with and sat in class with for the last 13 years. I don't mind waiting til later in June for that opportunity. I don't mind waiting until July for that opportunity. I am making this petition to reach out to students, staff, and community members to postpone our graduation ceremony date so that the Class of 2020 can have a traditional ceremony, receive our diplomas, and toss our caps in the air.
