Georgia Cooley started this petition to Students and parents

(this isn't just for hamburg people to sign!)

I made this petition to try and change Hamburg School Districts Dress Code. I am not asking to get rid of dress code, but instead make the rules a little more realistic.

All students must have shorts/skirts/dresses that are a dollar bill from the knee. Would it not be more reasonable to make the rule "x amount of inches inseam" or "x amount of fingers below the butt"? It is hard for tall students to follow this rule and not look like Adam Sandler. As a tall girl who likes wearing shorts and skirts to school, it has been hard for me to find comfortable shorts and skirts that follow the dress code. The same thing applies to leggings and what length of shirts you can't wear with them.

Another rule that most students and I find impractical, is that we can't have holes in our jeans above the knee. I am grateful that we can have holes in our pants, but if students can show a tiny patch of skin on their knees, what's the difference in showing a little patch of skin on their upper thigh? I do understand that students should be modest at school but maybe allowing rips "x amount of inches below the butt" or "no front pockets and no undergarments showing." That last one is pushing it a bit though.

One last example, is how students must have mesh or clear backpacks. I do understand the reasoning for this and that the school is trying to monitor bags. What I do not understand, is why we can have non-mesh or clear lunch boxes or pencil pouches. If a student really wanted to bring a weapon or drugs to school they could. If the school is concerned about what a student is carrying, they should have valid proof and reasoning of accusing the student and proceed to check their bag. It is not easy to see through a mesh bag anyways, and a student can hide something just as easily in a mesh backpack as a non-mesh one. Since there are holes already in mesh bags, have tendencies to tear easier than normal backpacks. Regular backpacks are more accessible than mesh backpacks, and good quality clear back packs are difficult to find as well.

Once again, this petition was not made to completely take away dress code but to make it more practical.
