I am starting this petition to spread awareness across our University of Rhode Island campus. On April 9, 2019, the University of Rhode Island is planning on having The Garden Bros. Circus come to the Ryan's Center. In the email we received today, March 4, 2019, it states that there will be live performances from elephants, dogs, horses and other animals. 

Looking into The Garden Bros. Circus, they have a long list of animal cruelty and criminal charges against them. Many cities, states, and even countries have banned wild-animal circus acts. According to the Providence Journal in 2016, Rhode Island has been the first state to ban the use of bullhooks to train elephants. So why are they allowing a circus to come to our school that still uses these practices? Circuses with animals are NOT enlightening and should not be used for our entertainment. They are outdated and cruel. Please sign this petition in hopes of URI realizing that they are supporting a terrible cause! Make your voices count!
