Change the USI REC dress code
Change the USI REC dress code
Why this petition matters
The dress code that the usi rec center has in place is both sexists and outdated. Many women have gone to the gym and been dress coded for wearing spandex, crop tops, and other common gym wear. As someone who has been dress coded while wearing a long sleeve cropped top that many women wear while working out and leggings, I was annoyed at the fact that I was chosen by a male worker who not only ignored the male students who broke the regulated dress code but who also continued to watch me workout the rest of the time I was there. I had worn this workout outfit many times in the rec and have never been dress coded a single time.
Athletic wear has changed since this dress code was created. Most personal trainers will actually prefer a client to wear tight and reveling clothing because they are able to see how their body is moving during the workout. Personally I wear tight clothing so I can see how my body is moving to make sure I am using proper form. I also know that usi athletics don’t require such a strict dress code for their athletes.
i am hoping this petition allows the usi Rec to rethink their strict and sexist dress code and also how to educate their employees on how to not target just women for dress code.
