Hey everyone, so this year high school events are finally back, except for the fact that dance bids for guests at dances are not allowed. This is obviously very unfair for myself and others that have significant others attending other high schools. I’m sure myself and many others are affected by this as we will not be able to attend homecoming (and possibly other future dances) with our significant other, a high school experience that everyone should be able to have if presented the opportunity.

To start off, nowhere in the CDPH guidelines does it say no commingling is allowed. Obviously we have seen that at football games, should you pay whether it’s in person or for online tickets you are admitted to the game. They don’t check an ID card, you don’t have to go to said high school, and it does not matter if you aren’t even a high school student. These football games are held (obviously) outside so as the homecoming will be for Roseville High School. For any sports event, you are allowed to commingle with the other school, and those that don’t even attend schools. Why is this allowed but now that it comes down to a school dance, all of a sudden guests are not allowed? The reason given out on Friday the 3rd of September (at Roseville High School) was because of covid, but why does this not hold up to all events?

Last year we were stripped of all High School experiences and this year while we have most of them back, some are still being taken away which is so unfair to those that are affected. To add on, Im sure that those that have significant others see their partner quite often outside of school, so if their partner was to have covid I’m sure they would have it as well. To say it’s because the contact tracing is too hard is not a good reason either because at all sports events we don’t know everyone that’s attending, where they are, or who they were by. Finally, Homecoming football games are the day before the actual Homecoming dance itself. Why am I able to take my significant other to this game but I can not take them to the dance the next day?

Im sure that many others and myself would love for Roseville High School and other High Schools in this district to allow for guest bids so we can take our significant others to a dance which many of us have been looking forward to.
