Marshfield High School, while overall is a great learning environment filled with wonderful staff, has recently been extreme over their hat rule. They claim that hats are not allowed on school property because it can be seen a security risk to not be able to see a face on a camera. There are multiple flaws in this logic. For one, we have had to wear masks in school that are covering over half our face for the better part of two years. If desired a student could also have their hair down so it it covering the top half of their face obscuring next to all of their face. In addition, forcing a student to take off a hat might be detrimental to their mental health. A student that is already having a bad time at school, could get bullied or tormented by their fellow students even more for having bad hair. While we never condone bullying of any type in Marshfield, it is a sad truth that it still happens. After such a hard past year and a half for all students and staff that last thing anyone needs is to be put down anymore.
We, the students of Marshfield High School, believe that there is no reason as to not allow us to wear a hat in school. We do not mean this to be an attack or a criticism of any one person but as the rule as a whole.
