As Tennessee moves more and more classes online there is a high probability that learning may take place in a completely remote format during the 2020/2021 school year. We experienced this last spring as we paid full tuition yet lacked on campus experience/amenities. It is not fair for our school, that says they value their student body, to be charging fully for remote learning. They have not made a statement about being fully online yet more and more classes are moving online. Tennessee is going to charge full tuition for another online semester/year as if it is the same as a typical campus experience. It is not the same and is not fair to charge for campus features/resources that we cannot utilize. I was told in the spring that ‘tuition is a set rate’ and cannot be changed during all of this. This is very insensitive to the situation and Tennessee needs to step up and acknowledge the struggles current times have put many in, especially their students. Should we move to online/remote learning there needs to be an adjustment to student fees. They cannot charge for a traditional college setting/experience in these troubling and changing times when that is not what students are receiving.
