Student Loan Debt Forgiveness

Student Loan Debt Forgiveness
Why this petition matters
Knowledge is power. Knowledge is freedom. Knowledge is the foundation of success. An education is something our ancestors were denied, but that did not stop them from learning and growing. Due to the paving of their determined hearts and spirits, their Faith that pushed them forward and voices that echoed “Don’t give up hope” “Fight for your rights”, on this day, I am inspired to pursue education and encourage others to do the same.
I received my associates degree in General Studies at Macomb Community College in 2012, though unable to proceed any further due to cost. I attempted to continue at Oakland University with the help of Student Loans, which were approved, though on my first day of class, which was math, I was made aware that my classes were dropped due to missing information. I assumed a possible system error as nothing/no person truly holds the title of perfection, except God Himself. I spoke with a guidance counselor who assisted with submitting the information that was stated as “missing”. At that point, I decided to change my major from nursing to business. My classes were dropped again for the same reason as “missing information”. I did not give up hope! However, I then decided on a psychology degree rather than business. And yet again, classes were dropped. At that point, I assumed maybe College wasn’t meant for me. I continued my path working in the field of Business, where I did learn many things and am most grateful for the opportunity. I am also grateful that I don’t hold the added burden upon my shoulders of Student Loan Debts. Though I still have an interest and desire of learning, in which I currently am studying different subjects on my own. My life experiences have led me toward the passion to study and pursue Law, Nursing, Theology, and Quantum Physics.
As I think about my brother, cousins, friends, and even President Obama, my thoughts lead toward Student Loan Debts.
I know first hand of the emotional trauma that Debt may cause, and it’s not a good position to be in.
My hope is that change can be made and forgiveness provided to those who currently hold Student Loan Debts, who may be seeking relief.
To allow opportunities for those eager to learn, so that they may be fruitful and multiply, giving back in a way that not only allows them to follow their dreams and passions, but also inspire others to do the same.
