Bringing a Few Student Concerns to Your Kind Attention
The Student Experience Office plays a major role in ensuring quality student life. In the past, it has been receptive to our requests, and has made commendable efforts to improve campus life for us.
Given your encouraging response, the medical students – via Synergy – wanted to bring the following to your attention.
1. Prohibition of day scholars in the hostel:
Day scholars have been prohibited from entering the hostels, even after providing proper identification and signing in. There are very few alternate spaces, with limited facilities, available for student relaxation purposes. Many students, especially those who travel via public transport late at night, are suffering greatly.
For this reason, we request the Student Experience Office to either:
a) Remove the restriction on day scholars completely
b) Use the system of signing in and checking student identity cards for entry
c) Issue special, approved cards for day scholars who wish to stay in the hostel.
2. Increasing food prices (S&T, Cafeteria):
Food item [Price 1 Month Ago (Rs.), Price Now (Rs.), Monthly Expenditure Now (Rs.)]
Coffee (110, 120, 3600–one cup/day)
Tea (25, 30, 900 – one cup/day)
Economy Breakfast (55, 60, 1800)
These changes may seem trivial if considered independently, but cumulatively they become a burden on students and their families.
For this reason, we request that the Student Experience Office, in collaboration with NFSD/S&T, either
a) Reduce the rates for coffee, tea and economy meals for all customers, or
b) Reduce the rates of coffee, tea and economy meals for medical and nursing students ONLY (upon viewing the individual’s ID card).
3. Student parking:
The medical students aren't allowed to park in the medical college parking lot. Alternate parking areas include the helipad and the paid parking, both of which are not easy to access.
Helipad: has been experiencing a stray-dog problem currently
Paid parking: charges Rs. 50 for parking each time, which sums up to Rs.1500 per month.
For this reason, we request the Student Experience Office to either
a) Issue stickers for students to use the medical college parking, or
b) Remove the parking fee for students at the paid parking behind the medical college.
