A Straw Free Campus

There are 500 million plastic straws used in a day in the United States alone. This is enough to wrap around the equator of the earth 2.5 times! This is causing over-crowding of landfills and allowing the plastic straw to get into natural states and cause chaos. The straw takes about 2,000 years to decompose, but once it is decomposed it turns into plastic sand which is micro-accumulated into fish and inevitably into humans. Consuming plastics can lead to diseases such as colon cancer. 152 straws were found in a Terre Haute city block. This problem emphasizes the necessity of creating a straw-free campus and around the Terre Haute community.
