As a student at UT Austin, having credits for free Lyfts is a beneficial privilege. UT Night Rides help students save money, time,  and most importantly provides safe transportation on and off campus. How would something like this have an issue? Frankly, there's a specific time slot in which the Lyft ride is actually free, from 11pm to 4am. For some, this is the only way of getting home, besides the bus. Though most of the time, the last bus leaves campus around 10pm causing a 1 hour gap of waiting for those trying to get home. This leaves some students in a state of vulnerability on a campus with a known murder and criminal history. I would like to petition for the UT Night Ride hours to start an hour earlier, from 10pm-4am. Doing this would provide more security for students at UT. This matters to me because it directly affects me. Living 5 miles away from campus, I depend on the bus and free Lyfts to get home. There are times I don't get out of class until 10pm, causing me to have to wait in the cold and dark outdoors. Expanding the time slot by just an hour would help students like me, and others who go through the same thing. Although it is a minor change, its impact could be a major.
