Law Change for P Contamination Affected Landlords
0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!
Landlords in New Zealand have no rights to have charges laid for P (Methamphetamine) contamination to their rentals.
This needs to be changed, so that the tenant is held responsible and can be charged with wilful damage, so long as property was tested before tenant took over the lease. One strike and you're out immediately, just like employment laws with drugs. No second chances. This is a major epidemic in New Zealand and it is only going to get worse if nothing is done about it.
Landlords are selling properties as it is now becoming too risky and the good tenants are suffering because of this.
Our tenant has contaminated a number of properties and gets to walk free, while the landlords are left to decontaminate and refit properties at a major cost, ranging anywhere between $50,000 to $150,000.
