Aviva C started this petition to Stuart-Rogers Photography

Dear Stuart Rogers Photography,
As a high school senior, Senior pictures are an exciting rite of passage. Getting dressed up, doing your hair-- Its all part of celebrating your last year of high school.
But, for many students, being full-body photographed is anxiety- provoking. Especially for students who have struggled with body image.

"Dark colors are slimming"
I was appalled to see the above line circulated in letters to all the senior students, saying that dressing in dark colors is "slimming'. There are multiple problems with this.
For one, it embraces the societal notion that you should "cover up" your weight. Teens should be taught to embrace their bodies, not to hide them under dark clothing. Body positivity is a huge issue among teens- various surveys conducted show that majority of teens are uncomfortable with their bodies, especially girls.
The wording is also triggering to those who have suffered eating disorders and severe body image issues, as it can bring back vivid, triggering memories.
This wording and tip promotes the ideology that being thin is the only way to be beautiful.
I'm grateful to go to a High School that doesen't encourage students to look "slim" in their portraits, one that supports senior portraits as an opprotunity for students to be proud of who they are. But my classmates and I aren't the only ones seeing this circular- The boys and girls whose parents will get this circular at high schools across Chicagoland, and encourage their children to hide their bodies for photographs. The teenagers who are in recovery from eating disorders, who struggle with body image and Receive this message right before an already difficult event-getting a full body portrait.
There's controversy in the modeling world as to wether telling models to dress "slimming" is Ok. And for high schoolers, this is beyond unacceptable. The signers of this petition call on Stuart Rogers to stop distributing this "advice" to high schoolers in the Chicagoland area. All we ask is to consider removing the clause pertaining to dressing "slimming" from the pamphlets given to High Schoolers, who are at a high risk of developing body dysmorphia and eating disorders.
