Survivors of child sexual abuse have been left hanging by the dysfunctional and failing redress system.

We call on Stuart Robert and Scott Morrison to fix the system before more lives are lost to self harm and suicide. Survivors have been left in limbo while institutions have until 2022 to opt in to the system. This is a fundamentally flawed process. Those who were abused did not opt in for abuse.

Less than 10% of claims have been settled over 17 months.  This is not good enough. This redress was recommended to allow survivors to start the journey to recovery, acceptance and healing.

The long processes mean recovery, acceptance and healing cannot begin and survivors are being further traumatised.

Specifically:

We call on the Government to immediately settle all claims for redress and seek the payment from institutions;

We call on the Government to compel institutions to opt in to the system by December 31, 2019;

We call on the Government to increase the cap to $200,000 as recommended by the Royal Commission in to Institutional Child Sexual Abuse.

It has been too long. The time for change is now.
