Stop the "Bed Tax"
This petition had 195 supporters
From next year, Durham will be introducing a £228 charge for rooms which have a three-quarter or double bed. This is being done without giving students the choice to choose what size bed they prefer or can afford, while many people are unaware that such a charge even exists.
This means that students risk being placed in financial difficulty by yet another unexpected charge, preventing a university experience which all should be able to enjoy, regardless of wealth.
There is no public information available that disabled students who require larger beds to meet their needs will have this charged waived. We want assurances that Durham University will not profit from helping disabled people access education.
