Not In My Park. Save Mount Brydges Park

Julie Neary started this petition to Strathroy Caradoc Council and

Residents of Strathroy Caradoc, Stop the Loss of our Park Space.

Strathroy Caradoc council plans to rezone a large portion of our central park in downtown Mount Brydges for a 4-storey housing development. While we recognize the need for subsidized housing in our area, the loss of green space for everyone is unacceptable. This park includes our cenotaph, playground and only splash pad in Mount Brydges. Their plans would take away the majority of green space near the splash pad, leaving a minimal amount of open area for families to gather.

Mount Brydges is expanding rapidly with more families coming to the area, we need more protected green space for our families, not less. Council is rushing this idea forward, to secure a grant from the government at the cost of the town's well being. They have acknowledged that due to time constraints, no other locations were ever considered. We feel that this application is being rushed for government funding and not considering the long-term impact the loss would have on the town. We need to protect our outdoor space. We feel there are multiple locations in our town where an apartment complex would be more suitable and appropriate.

The deadline to start building in order to receive the grant is March 31st, 2021. In the next couple of weeks council will be posting signs in the park, and notifying the town via newspaper of the upcoming meetings required to rezone our green space to build the complex.

By signing this petition you are telling the Council that the choice of location for this new affordable housing is unwanted.

We are not against more housing, just the location.

Please sign and share with your family, friends and neighbors.

Please consider sending a letter with your concerns to planning@strathroy-caradoc.ca
