Save Antigonish Education Centre from Closure

On March 13th 2017, the School Options Committee for the Dr. John H. Gillis Regional High School Feeder System voted to recommend the closure of the Antigonish Education Centre. This recommendation would result in the closure of the newest school in the feeder system and relocate grades P-6 to the St. Andrews Junior School and grades 7-12 to the regional high school.
The closure of the AEC and the new plan for students would result in the creation of one of the most tightly populated primary schools in all of Nova Scotia. These students would be housed in an older facility that was not purpose built for younger grades and would not have the space to facilitate necessary programs that the AEC currently runs. It would also create a situation in which grades 7-12 are housed together in a 46-year old facility that already requires significant improvements.
The recommendation to close will be presented to the Strait Regional School Board trustees at a meeting on April 5, 2017. Send a message before then that you do not want to see the AEC closed. Sign this petition, today!
