For years foster siblings have been ripped away from each other, even if they were in healthy, happy relationships. The foster system needs to change. With the proposed bill H.147 the system will need to keep siblings and half siblings together unless there is evidence they should be separated. No child should have to deal with a new environment on their own and additionally deal with loosing their support system. Separation plummets their mental health, increase isolation, and makes it harder for them to adjust. It’s been recorded that when siblings are kept together they have an increase in cognitive function and are better at adapting. Keep foster siblings together.
