STOP Wilbur Park!
STOP Wilbur Park!
The Issue
Wilbur Park is a proposed 28-unit development consisting of 7 affordable (low-to-moderate income) houses, all within a 4.2-acre parcel. This type of densely populated project in Lincoln, RI, will introduce several issues, including increased noise, a strain on resources, increased traffic, and safety issues for the existing residents of Wilbur Road.
Not only does it cause several local issues, but it will also be an issue for the town because it will set a precedent that allows developers to override land use regulations using the Comprehensive Permit process, introduced by the Rhode Island Low to Moderate Income Act of 1991. This act mandates all municipalities in the state allow dense development until a 10% affordable housing goal is met. Lincoln is currently at 8.3%, with other affordable housing projects contributing MORE than the measly 0.05% toward the town's goal.
We need to collect as many signatures as possible to show the town government and the developers that this type of dense development does not make sense, and it doesn't belong in our town.
