Stop Unfair School Funding in South Gloucestershire

Schools across South Gloucestershire are facing devastating funding cuts.
This will be to the detriment of our children's education.
Without changes to the government’s proposed funding formula and increased investment options some changes that schools may need to consider are listed below. This is not about scaremongering parents. It is the reality of the options that many schools are considering. Some schools may implement none of these and some may need to implement many depending on the severity of the cuts to their funding.
- Increased class sizes
- Reduce the curriculum which will reduce choice for learners based on affordable class sizes
- Cuts to teaching staff, teaching assistants and support roles
- Asking for parents donations to core running costs
- Reduced teaching weeks
- Cuts to extra-curricular activities and resources
South Gloucestershire schools are in the bottom 3 funded local authorities in the whole country! Click this link to see the list in full. http://www.fairpupilfunding.co.uk/area-funding-levels/. It's shocking how far you need to scroll down isn't it?! Even our neighbouring Gloucestershire schools receive £169 per year per pupil more than those in South Gloucestershire. Based on a school with 500 pupils that's £84,500 difference every year that our young people miss out on.

The government say that education funding is protected! And back in the real world the Institute for Fiscal Studies forecasted that “school spending per pupil is likely to fall by around 8 per cent in real terms between 2014/15 and 2019/20” as a result of funding not keeping up with the growing costs facing schools and rising pupil numbers.
Schools receive the same funding regardless of whether they are an academy or a local authority school. This is a SCHOOL problem, not an ACADEMY problem. The government are sitting pretty while schools and academies pit themselves against each other, blame is directed at individual schools, and all the while our young people are the main losers!! See news stories and campaigns from the length and breadth of the country here:
The school funding crisis isn't viewed as urgent in a similar way to the current NHS one. However in the long term we cannot underestimate the impact; a whole generation of young people missing out on the education they deserve and that our school leaders so desperately want to give.
We are demanding our government finds a better, fairer funding strategy for our schools – a new formula that recognises that investment in education is an investment in the future of the young people in South Gloucestershire.
Please sign our petition calling on the government to keep its promise and protect all our children’s education.
